The 8th China - Sri Lanka Joint Workshop on Marine Sustainable Development

On April 25, 2023, the China Sri Lanka joint Center for Education and Research (CSL-CER) of the University of Ruhuna and the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), successfully concluded 8 th annual joint workshop. The workshop, held at the Sapphire Meeting Rooms, Courtyard by Marriott in Colombo, focused on the theme of Marine Sustainable Development and brought together esteemed scientists and experts in the fields of oceanology, environmental research, and climate change. The CSL-CER aimed to bring together national and international scientists engaged in ocean environment research, environmental sciences, and climate change to address these pressing challenges. The primary objective of the workshop was to facilitate meaningful discussions on crucial topics, including Indo-Pacific Ocean variability and its environmental impacts, as well as environmental issues and corresponding remedial measures. The opening ceremony commenced with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Prof. Chaolun Li, representing SCSIO, and Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna. The MOU signifies the commitment of both institutions to strengthen their relationship and establish joint research works, fostering collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
