International Symposium on Agriculture and Environment-ISAE 2021

    International Symposium on Agriculture and Environment-ISAE 2021 was held on 7th May 2021, as a virtual conference. The Theme of the ISAE 2021 was “Challenges in Agriculture: impact, resilience and adaptation for sustainability”.  Hon Minister of Environment Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera graced the event as the Chief Guest while Prof. David Rowlings, school of Biology and Environmental science, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Queensland University of Technology, Australia delivered the keynote speech of the Inaugural Session.

    Scientists around the globe, including three keynote speakers from Australia, Japan and Bangladesh presented their novel research findings under the seven thematic areas; plant, soil and environment, crop production technologies, agribusiness and entrepreneurship, challenges in agriculture, food and nutrition, livestock, poultry and aquaculture and innovative technologies.

    Inauguration ceremony of the TROPIMUNDO Master Degree Programme

    Faculty of Science welcomed the second batch of students for the European Commission-funded TROPIMUNDO Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Tropical Biodiversity and Ecosystems. The official ceremony was held on on 09th April 2021 with the participation of the Vice Chancellor, Snr. Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Saman Chandana Ediriweera, the Local Coordinators of the programme, Snr Prof. L. P. Jayatissa and Dr. K. A. Sunanda Kodikara.


    Ruhuna International Science and Technology Conference- RISTCON 2021

    The 8th Ruhuna International Science and Technology Conference (RISTCON 2021), organized by the Faculty of Science was held on 17th of February 2021. Vice Chancellor Snr. Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena and His Excellency, Mr. Eric Livertu. Ambassador of France graced the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest and the guest of honour, respectively. The Keynote Speech of the RISTCON-2021 was delivered by a renowned scientist, Dr. Daniel Gorman, CSIRO, The University of Western Australia, Crawley, Australia. An eminent ornithologist, Professor Ragupathy Kannan, University of Arkansas Fort-Smith, Arkansas, USA delivered a plenary lecture. Around 150 academics, researchers, postgraduates, industry experts and policy makers representing a diverse range of disciplines participated the conference.


    University of Ruhuna Colors Nite 2018/2019

    The biannual Colors Nite of University of Ruhuna for years 2018 and 2019 was held in a glamorous way at Rabindranath Tagore auditorium, University of Ruhuna on 27 th March 2021.The Vice Chancellor Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, grabbed the occasion as the ChiefGuest. Col.(Dr.) Saveen Semage, a proud product of Ruhuna was the Guest of Honor.185 athletes received colors in the evening and 66 athletes were awarded the best player awards.14 athletes who made mother Ruhuna proud nationally and internationally were honored withspecial awards. Miss H.P.A.Jayamini, Faculty of Engineering won the award for the recipient of highest numberof colors. The supreme award of the evening, Most Outstanding Player award has been won by Miss S.U.S.B.Wijewickrama of Faculty of Agriculture.
