Job Description:
The Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science, University of Ruhuna is seeking a committed and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join a project focused on the data collection, analysis, and documentation of coconut pest and disease data in Sri Lanka.
This role is ideal for individuals passionate about agriculture and data analysis, who are interested in contributing to sustainable coconut cultivation practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct field-based data collection on pest and diseases affecting coconut cultivation across Sri Lanka.
- Analyze collected data to identify key patterns, risk factors, and regional differences.
- Assist in the development of a comprehensive Package of Practices (PoP) for coconut pest and disease management.
- Contribute to the creation of information guides for farmers and stakeholders, summarizing pest and disease control methods.
- Collaborate with research and technical teams to ensure data quality and timely completion of project goals.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge and education in Agriculture, Crop Science, Plant Protection, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience in field data collection, pest and disease identification, and analysis is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills in Sinhala and/or Tamil; English is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel and work independently in field settings.
- Familiarity with data entry tools and basic data analysis software is a plus.
Compensation:
- Rs. 300.00 per working day
- Total of 210 working days (as per project requirements)
