Number of Scholarships

Initially we are going to introduce this course for selected 50 family members of disabled or diseased veterans. We intend to focus on candidates from Galle, Matara and Hambanthota districts for this scholarship program.

RUITS Scholarship Programme

In appreciation of services rendered recently by veterans, the Department of Computer Science (DCS), University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka with the guidance of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna and Dean of the Faculty of Science started an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) course for needy family members of veterans who were either diseased or disabled. ( Financial Support For the Scholarship Programme was given by I-FREED International Foundation )

 

The DCS in collaboration with Industrial and Financial Systems (IFS) organized a similar programme (RIITS) for Tsunami affected students and teachers of Southern region in 2005 and still continuing its fifth phase. Most previous certificate holders of the program have IT-related employment.

We name this scholarship program as Ruhuna University IT Scholarship Program (RUITS) and expecting to offer 50 scholarships under this programme. After we have commence this project as a pilot project in the southern region other national Universities in the country can also start similar programmes in order to honor war heroes of our time.

Objectives of RUITS

Objectives of Ruhuna University IT Scholarship (RUITS) program is to enhance the ICT skills among disable armed forces personnel's and police personnel's and there loved ones in the southern region by
  1. Developing human resources with moderate but not basic ICT skills
  2. Increasing employability of the participants
  3. Offering opportunity to people especially in southern region
  4. ProViding the opportunity to acquire ICT knowledge from a qualified faculty
  5. Giving hands on experience in the ICT field and stimulate and explore independent thinking for self employment opportunities

Target Group

Target Group will include the following

  • Children (not less than 18 years) of disabled or diseased
  • Brother or sister (not less than 18 years) of diseased veterans
  • Brother or siter of disabled veterans in the southern region

Duration of the Course

Course will be conducted between 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on either Saturday or Sunday (8 hours per day)
