Question         : How Tsunami affected you?

Answer            :We lived in Thelwaththa. It was one of the seriously damaged areas in the southern region. Due to Tsunami

                          disaster, our house was totally destroyed and we lost most of our properties. We generated our main income

                          through a small shop/ boutique and it was also completely destroyed from Tsunami. I lost three of my family

                        members including one of my sisters.  I lived under stress because of this. I couldn’t sit for the A/L examination        though I was studying for the A/L.  

Question         : How did you get to know about this course? 

Answer            : I got to know about this course through my school.

Question         : What did you gain from this course?

Answer           : I was happy to hear about this scholarship program as young people like us get opportunities to follow IT courses without paying money. As our family members are not in a position to pay for my studies, this RIITS course helped me to gather modern IT knowledge and skills which helped me to find a good job.

                       Truly, this course helped me to uplift my mentality. Although we got different aids and help to build up our lives, we didn’t get any opportunities to be involved in any educational programs. RIITS program was the only program that I have come across to build up my life in educational perspective. Therefore,  I participated in this program with a great encouragement and enthusiasm. Therefore I worked hard and got through the course with a merit pass and I got a computer as a gift from IFS.

Question         : What are you doing at the moment and how this RIITS course helped/assist in your current position?

Answer           : At the moment, I’m working at one of the leading companies in Sri Lanka, Soft Logic Communications – Colombo 05. The knowledge I gained through RIITS course and the certificate that was awarded from this course was a great help for me to find this job.

Question         : Future ambitions? 

Answer            : I sat for the A/L examination in 2007 and waiting for results. I want to be a computer programmer and this RIITS course had provided me the necessary background for achieving it.
