Faculty Union
According to the amended University Act of
1988, Section 26, students of each faculty can form a Student SocietiesIn addition to the Faculty Union, there are other registered societies which are affiliated to different departments. Ruhuna University Botanical SocietyThis was established in 1980 and its contribution to the University is considerable. The society has launched a programme to set up its branches in schools of Matara District with the view to popularizing nature conservation. The tree-planting campaigns were organized by the society. The Physics SocietyThe main aim of the Physics Society is to educate the members with the modern knowledge of physics and to work for the advancement of the mankind. Seminars are held frequently to educate the members about the current research and findings in the areas related to the field of physics. Also, the students of the society arrange special courses to share their knowledge with others. A magazine, named ``The Horizon'', is also published by the Physics Society. The Zoological SocietyThe Zoological Society was established in 1992 with the aim of enlightening the members, of threatened wild life and current affairs related to the field. Any of the registered student of the University of Ruhuna can be a member of this society. The society also has an interest in establishing a bird-watching group in collaboration with the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka. The Computer Society of the University of Ruhuna
The main objective of the Computer Society is
to create the awareness among its members of the diversity of today's
computer applications. It organizes popular lectures on various subjects
related to Computer Science. The society organizes a well-received
