INTRODUCTION TO THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies offers study programmes leading to Bachelor of Arts General and Special Degrees in,

  • Buddhist Culture
  • Buddhist Philosophy and
  • Pali Language
  • It is the mission of the Department to develop inner disciplines of the learners by bringing out cultural and ethical values appreciated in Buddhism, philosophically and intellectually giving a clear understanding of the human, its nature and the environment.

    The Department has designed study programmes to give a fundamental knowledge of Theravada Buddhism, Theravada Buddhist Philosophy, and Theravada Buddhist Culture to undergraduates. The course contents of the degree programmes concentrate on the development of both the Theravada and Mahayana Buddhist Philosophies, Philosophical schools, the Expansion of Buddhism and Buddhist Culture throughout the world.

    The General and Special Degree Programmes are orientated to accord students a clear knowledge and understanding of the comparative study of both Theravada and Mahayana Philosophical schools that contribute academically to the internal discipline of Learners.
