INTRODUCTION TO ELTU

The ELTU is one of the largest among the six academic bodies of the faculty in terms of student enrolment because the students in all the faculties of the university offer English as a compulsory constituent of their respective degree programmes. The teaching staff of the unit, consists of two senior lecturers, 4 probationary lecturers, 4 permanent instructors and 8 contract instructors. The support staff consists of a clerk, an office assistant, and two trainee typists. The ELTU is situated at the top of the hill that holds the HSS faculty complex in its entirety. The panoramic view of the Indian ocean one captures from the balcony of the ELTU building is a rare experience for any visitor. Currently the ELTU conducts general English programmes in all faculties, in addition to its weekend certificate and diploma programmes in professional English.
