INTRODUCTION
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is one of the leading Faculties in Term of Students and Staff in the University of Ruhuna, Matara, Sri Lanka. The faculty has recognized the important role that it has to play for the national development in the present global economic and political system. In fact, many of the faculty members have been engaged in producing and disseminating socially desirable knowledge besides their routine teaching and learning activities. However, it is learnt by the faculty that its visibility remains largely hidden due to many reasons. The other problem is the lack of opportunities to present their scholarly works. In this context, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences wishes to start Annual Academic Sessions for the First Time to provide opportunity for the promising academic of the faculty. This Annual Academic Sessions will be a forum to present their research work and get them published while increasing the level of visibility of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in all forms of Scholarly Media while encouraging the interfaculty collaboration of staff and students in producing and improving the knowledge dissemination and discovery.
OBJECTIVES
- To provide a scholarly forum for members of the faculty to present their research findings
- To encourage student-staff collaboration in research
- To disseminate knowledge relevant to the national and regional development
- To facilitate the public policy formulation through research findings.
- To encourage inter-faculty collaboration in research
- To publish research findings that are presented in the Annual Academic Sessions
in the faculty
ELIGIBILITY FOR PARTICIPATION :
- Academic Staff Members of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Member of other Faculties of University of Ruhuna who are interested in Humanities and Social Sciences
- Foreign and Local scholars who are interested on Humanities and Social Science
field in Sri Lanka - Postgraduate students of the faculty together with supervisor(s) of Research Work
- Undergraduate students of the faculty together with supervisor(s) of Research Work
MEDIUM
The Abstract, Full Paper and the Presentation should be in English
GUIDE LINES FOR ABSTRACTS:
- Abstracts should be in the range of 250- 300 words.
- They should be based on empirical or theoretical, unpublished and original work.
- Abstracts should preferably give a concise overview of the presentation including objectives, scope of the problem, major issues addressed, methodology, references and a concluding statement.
- Abstracts should be sent along with a brief profile/s of the author/s including title, affiliation, address, telephone, fax, email and five key words.
- Authors are requested to send their abstracts by e-mail.

Accepted Abstracts will be published in the session’s proceedings and recommended full papers will also be published.CERTIFICATES
A Certificate of Participation will be issued to all the presenters in the academic sessions besides awarding a certificate of excellence for those presenters that adjudged best by the panel of academics who has specialized in the respective sub-themes.EVALUATION SYSTEM
All the abstracts and full papers will be reviewed by a referee board.
RULES AND REGULATIONS:
- Abstracts and Full Papers should be submitted on or before the scheduled dates.
- The research supervisor(s) should be present at the presentation with their postgraduate or the undergraduate students.
- Presenters should agree to the publication of their papers in the “Annual Academic Sessions 2012; Full Papers”
- Abstracts will be accepted after the submission of the full papers.
- Full Papers will be published only if the author/s has/have presented the paper at the sessions.
