China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and ResearchMessage from the Vice Chancellor

As the Vice-Chancellor of University of Ruhuna, it gives me immense pleasure to write this message to the featured web page of the China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and Research (CSL-CER). The vision of the University of Ruhuna is to be the prime intellectual thrust of the nation. In line with that, various initiatives have been undertaken to broaden and strengthen the research and educational performances of University of Ruhuna. Within that context, international collaboration and mobility is one of the topmost priorities of the university and these international partnerships essentially contribute to the academic and scientific progress of the university.

China-Sri Lanka joint Center for Education and Research (CSL-CER) is a milestone of the international academic collaboration of University of Ruhuna. As a result of long-term, robust symbiotic relationship between Sri Lanka and China, CSL-CER was established at University of Ruhuna with the aim of promoting science education and research in Sri Lanka.

The CSL-CER is comprised of Marine Environment and Climate Effect Lab, Water Environment and Water Supply Safety Lab, Ecosystem and Biodiversity Lab and Personnel Training and Education Office. The structural composition of the Center has a higher potential to deal with wide thematic areas and diversified research.

China has the world’s largest educational system. It is becoming an increasingly important research nation. China - Sri Lanka academic alliance through CSL- CER would contribute significantly to long-term education and research activities. CSL- CER has a great opportunity to enrich education and strengthen research both in terms of quality and capacity in Sri Lanka and China.

I would like to thank the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO) and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) for their cooperation extended. In additionally, the collaborative gesture of all the foreign and local counterparts involved with CSL-CER should be profoundly appreciated.

I wholeheartedly wish all the very best for CSL-CER to sustain a strategic bilateral partnership for effective academic and research. I hope this CSL-CER creates inspiring results in academic and research paradigms.
