There are two Dutch Forts at Matara. The 'Matara Fort'(1645AD) and the 'Star Fort'(1765AD). |
Wevrukannala

A huge Buddha statue which is 150ft in hight is located at Wevrukannala.
It is the highest Buddha statue in Sri lanka. This temple is situated near
Dickwella, on the way to Tangalle. |
Lighthouse
| The Lighthouse was built by British in 1894 at Devinuwara (Dondra edge). It is about 172 feets hight at sea level and considered as the largest lighthouse in southern Asia. |
Devinuwara

Devinuwara is also a very famous village in Matara district. Visnu Devale,
the historic shrini which was dedicated to God Visnu is at Devinuwara.
During the months of July or August every year a festival is held to honour of God Visnu. |
