Scope and Objectives

Building an innovative, entrepreneurial and dynamic nation with a deep sense of patriotism and national consciousness and with a strong commitment to social harmony is the need of the hour. Thus while promoting intellectual growth and igniting and fostering the innovative and entrepreneurial passion particularly of our school children, university students and the youth of the country, it is important to sow the seeds of patriotism, national consciousness and social harmony in the hearts and minds of our people.

With this in view, the Silver Jubilee celebrations will have the following major objectives:

• To promote creative and imaginative thinking and intellectual curiosity particularly among school        children, university students and youth of the country

• To expose the public to the cutting edge of knowledge, leading-edge research and state-of-the art technology in important fields  to create  intellectual excitement and inspiration

• To provide useful knowledge and material to school children and teachers in keeping with current education reforms

• To provide an opportunity for the students and staff to liberate, showcase and improve  their inborn talents and hone their skill in various spheres

• To motivate and encourage the potential and budding entrepreneurs, innovators and inventors

•  To foster a sense of national consciousness and patriotism among the people, particularly in the new generation of the country

• To promote and popularize “Siya rata de” - those made in Sri Lanka with special attention to those based on traditional knowledge/conventional wisdom

• To contribute towards  a cultural renaissance in Ruhuna

• To make the public aware of the various types of services offered by the university such as analytical, testing, consultancy, advisory, counseling, information etc.
