Thus, the Silver Jubilee celebrations mainly comprised of an exhibition and cultural festival that will be of great value and relevance to everybody irrespective of the age, level of education, profession etc. But, it of great benefit particularly to school children, school teachers, university students, youth and to anybody who is keen to be creative, inventive, innovative or entrepreneurial, and start a new lease of life.

The Silver Jubilee celebrations will have the following salient features:

• Educational and scientific exhibits, illustrations and demonstrations by the Faculties of Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Science and Humanities and Social Sciences for the benefit of school children, university students and teachers
  
• Latest developments in biotechnology, nanotechnology and information and communication technology, space technology, food technology, global climate change etc. to inspire and educate school children, university and technical college students, youth etc.
  
• "Invention and Innovation Corridor" including recent inventions and innovations by Sri Lankans, brain teasing interactive objects and innovative and inventive exhibits by school children, university students and staff, fostering creativity and innovativeness
  
• "Traditional Corner" showcasing products and services based on traditional/indigenous knowledge, traditional arts and crafts including rush and reed ware, traditional foodstuffs, sweetmeats etc. 
  
• "International window" depicting the international activities and research programmes of the university
  
• International circus shows, fire works etc. and enthralling performances by outstanding national artistes, dancers, vocalists etc.
  
• Talent shows and variety fairs by the university students and staff with refined and high-pitched entertainment and amusement 
  
• Variety of social and cultural programmes promoting national consciousness, patriotic feelings and ethnic harmony
  
• Cultural pageants including traditional dances, muppet shows, street dramas, wannam, kolam etc.
  
• Programmes for promoting and popularising the products and services by Sri Lankan entrepreneurs and manufacturers
  
• Exciting and gripping performances by the Police, Army, Navy and Air Force
  
• Honoring and recognizing the illustrious sons produced from Ruhuna in various fields
  
• Jubilee cup tournaments, Kiddies Corner, Children's Corner and trade stalls
