Industries

Salt is the major industry of the Hambantota district, which produces 30% of the total salt production of the country. Except for the largest slatterns at Elephantpass and Kurunchativu, the Other large Slatterns in the Inland are found in this District. There are three Slatterns in Hambanthota. Curd and Treacle is a traditional delicacy populate among the Sri Lanka. No meal is complete in the Hambanthota District without a serving of this delicious combination of coagulated buffalo milk and the concentrated sweet syrup of the coconut or the kitul palm. Wayside sheds selling pots of curd are a common sight along the coastal road in the Hambanthota District
